3 I's to Ace Classroom Aesthetics

Ace the Aesthetics

Am I the only one who simultaneously eagerly awaits being able to decorate my classroom while also lying awake at night stirring with indecision?

No, phew!  I thought it was just me.

Acing the aesthetics can be done in cost-affordable ways with these three I's:

  1. Inclusive
  2. Informative
  3. Inviting

Inclusive

Inclusivity matters, friends!

Selecting decorative elements such as posters, art supplies, and signs that represent the beautiful blend of students in the seats.

If selecting people feels challenging, animals, color pallets, and nature make for great themes.

You see, inclusivity embraces the intersectionality of people.  Inclusivity encompasses many facets of one's identity.  Being inclusive means visual schedules, different skin tones, a variety of family units, and diverse characters in literature.

Informative

Freebie
Word walls, instrument families, classroom jobs...they all communicate information to students.  But if you're going to have those gems up all year, they might as well be informative while being beautiful!

You can communicate information regardless of whether you select farmhouse vibes, rainbows
(Freebie), nature, or sports.

Inviting

Cactus Student Work Poster
Welcome signs are gems, right?!  I've been in a Pinterest haze looking at all the options out there!  Signs with rainbows, signs with American Sign Language, signs, with animals, signs with names, signs with leaves, signs with diverse tones, and the list goes on!!

Bulletin boards with student work goes a long way to creating a welcoming room.   Adding names on desks, doors, or folders is also a wonderful way to center the space on the students.

What are your current plans for the year?
