These last few days of summer are fading into Fall
Are you panicking yet?
While some of us can rest in the comfort that autumn will bring itself around with colorful wisps regardless of our readiness, many of us are somewhere between:
"I need more summer!"
&
"I need to prep for the school year!"
Regardless of whether you're trying to curb the summer teacher brain by living it up before the back to school season is in full swing or fretting about what to do this autumn (I suggest centers!), there are some actionable items to help you make the most of these last few days of summer.
Tip #1: Spend quality time with family & Friends
Perhaps it is a last minute vacay to climb a mountain or a super sweet stay-cation full of splash pads. Do it.
Book the show, get a ticket, and make the call.
Call those friends who fill your cup or bucket. Call those playful pals that will go to the show, sing karaoke, or go line dancing. Call those family members who make you giggle and laugh and chortle and guffaw!
Tip #2: Give yourself permission to Rest
Really rest.
It's really okay to read books in the hammock, lounge on the couch, or binge that show. Seriously.
I saw a post about how summers aren't "off" for teachers but rather a necessary break because we'll be "in recovery." Oof. Felt that one.
So, friends. Rest and recover. Please. Because the next 10 months will demand our full attention.
Tip #3: Look Ahead Cautiously
Tip toe in, y'all. There are too many things to do before school begins - and let's be clear: you do not have to do work outside of your contract hours.
- Get your school's calendar
- Pin some decor
- Consider classroom management system such as using ASL
- Select & fill in your Teacher Binder
- Prep your login / Password information
Tip #4:
Ask for help if that will give you peace of mind. Most administrators are working at least partial hours during the summer, so they should be responsible within a few work days.
If your questions aren't administrative in nature, who would help you?
Could a friend help you set up your classroom?
Are parents eager to volunteer their time?
Do you have a significant other that would be able to create some distraction for you?
For me, I'm soaking up the sun with my hands in the soil! What are your plans ?!
