What's a Teacher Wishlist and How Can I Create One?

Teacher Wish List - What is it, How do I create one, and How to Share it?!

What are Teacher Wish Lists?

Teacher wish lists are exactly what they sound like; lists of things you wish to have as a teacher.  They can range from classroom decorations to supplies, books or furniture, materials for kids, or funds for professional development.

How do I create Teacher Wish Lists?

Think about all those things you shop for online and put in your cart.  Those super cute teacher tees?  Add 'em to your list!  Let parents get a sense of your style and feel connected to you.  Are some of your priorities inclusion?  Representation?  Social emotional learning?

Anything you could put on a purchase order or would use your teacher budget to buy can be on your wish list and even more!

  • consumable Supplies: Pencils, erasers, markers, crayons, dry erase markers, paper, etc.
  • Craft supplies: Scissors, glue, googly eyes, streamers, popsicle sticks, & glitter (are you brave?!)
  • Cleaning supplies: sanitizer, spare masks, disinfecting wipes, sprays, eco-friendly towels
  • Classroom themed items: Bulletin board borders, colored reams of paper, hanging plants, mirror for self-affirmation stations, classroom stuffies, Wobble stools, or organizational pieces.
  • Reading Nook items: Rug or carpet, bean bags, bookshelves, picture books, chapter books, book ends, spine labels, check-out cards, reading signs.
Personal items can be tricky.   If you're like me, I focus so much time and energy on the students in the class that I often neglect things that would make teaching easier.   So, I vote for putting a few key items on your wish list such as a personalized shirt, teacher binder or planner, and pens that will make grading that much better 😀

Here are 3 ways to create teacher wish lists:

Sharing Teacher Wish Lists

Each site has its own way to share these lists, so finding that share icon will allow you to mail things directly or provide a link that you can share out with parents, friends, or school administrators.

Before you hit that share button, check a few things:

  • Make sure the title has
    • Name: You or school
    • Teacher Wish List
    • SIte, if applicable
  • Are your classroom needs & aesthetics clear?
  • Are there a variety of prices available?
  • Double check the link works!

Remember, it's okay if your list isn't "perfect" when you send it out.  Your needs and the list will fluctuate - keep it updated as your needs arise.

Once you have the link, consider adding it to your teacher email signature, teacher website, back to school letter, or send it out via email.

Wishing you a wonderful time creating your lists,

Jaime
